The Veterans Day program at the Edmonson County High School is always well attended. This year was no exception. Veterans from the county showed up and received the recognition they were due.

Along with the ECHS Band performing winners of the Voice of Democracy read their winning essays.
Winners of The Voice of Democracy were Brayden Johnson, 1st place, Cariann Williams, 2nd place, and Preston Doyle, 3rd place. These students wrote essays about what democracy means to them and how it affects them daily.

Each reflected on the idea of their personal lives as students and how they were able to give back to their community even at a young age. How their parents had instilled in them a respect for Veterans long before they knew what a Veteran was.

John Vincent retired US Marine Lt. Col. and one of the favorites of the students, spoke about how he had been adrift in life until one night he saw a commercial about the Marines. John said he just knew they were talking straight to him. He also said that when he told his parents he had joined his mother, though he had lost his mind. John encouraged students to try new things throughout life; by joining the Marines, he got to see and experience the world in a way he never would have.
