When the federal Government won’t or can’t take care of its citizens, the responsibility falls to the locals.  Edmonson County has a wonderful bunch of people who are willing to step in and help fill the gaps in the Federal shortfalls due to the government shutdown.

The Department of Community Based Services, Edmonson County Schools, local food banks, pantries, organizations, Life skills, Edmonson County Extension Office, and individuals have all come together to make sure everyone’s needs are met and no one needs to worry about having enough to eat.

Local drop off locations have been established as; Edmonson County Middle and High School Youth Service Center, Family Resource Centers at Kyrock, South Edmonson, and the 5/6 Center, Edmonson County Department of Community Based Services, Life skills, and Edmonson County Extension Agency.

The Edmonson County Board of Education has agreed to help coordinate monetary donations. Just make your check out to the Edmonson County Board of Education, and in the reference line, write food bank.

Judge Exec. Scott Lindsey stated that even though the school is a very big part of the effort, anyone without children will be eligible as long as you are a SNAP recipient, this includes seniors and homes without children in them.  Once distribution areas are made, an official from Community Based Services will be on hand with a list of all recipients in the county. Only those who already receive SNAP will be able to receive the donations. All information will remain private.

There are also a number of roadside blessing box pantries in the county. Locations are as follows: HWY 259 near the Cedar Springs Churches, Ag Extension office on Mohawk Street, and the Edmonson County Public Library.  If there are others, please let us know at 270-597-3115. If you have a few extra items, you can leave them inside the boxes.

Neighbor to neighbor, working together, we will all get through this.
