There are many skilled writers in Metcalfe County, one of whom is Shawn Martin, who is making his name with yet another book release.
We caught up with Martin recently at the Metcalfe County Public Library, where he held a book signing for his latest release, Echoes of War and Distant Thunder: Gathering Clouds on the Horizon.
This book is currently in the process of becoming an audiobook, which will be released in time for Christmas. After that, work begins on the movie script. Book two will not be released until sometime after the script work is finished.
At the book signing, Martin said he was “Happy to have the library’s support, and both these books are available there.”
His previous book, The Teacher, was also available at the book signing.
Martin stated that this book took about five years to write, and originally, the manuscript was meant for just one book. After the publisher had time to look at it, they called him up and wanted him to divide it into three books.
We spoke with Martin earlier this year and asked what Book 1 is about. He gave the following synopsis of this science fiction trilogy.
Mankind has come out of World War Three and has spent 100 years rebuilding…before the war, they had managed to get a colony on the moon and on Mars. With the rebuilding almost finished, all the governments are working together, and they have decided to go for another colony.
So, they started building a ship called the Ascension to go to Europa to set up a colony. With its power source, it can get to Europa in two years. As they’re getting ready to land on Europa, they hit a wormhole, which takes them to the other side of the galaxy. Luckily, they find another planet, which they name Quail. Nice little turquoise planet, little islands, and two big land masses. On Quail, they have air, water, animals, and plants; they’re in good shape. Except that the planet is inhabited by six-foot-tall beings, and everyone is in imminent danger and must evacuate the planet.
That should be plenty to get everyone’s curiosity going.
The book is available in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple Books.
Martin has also written a follow-up to his earlier book The Teacher, which he added will begin the Ghost Academy series. That will not be released until after the script work for Echoes of War and Distant Thunder is finished.
About the author – Shawn Martin is a U.S. Army veteran and former airborne rigger who served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Although he has worked many different jobs, he is currently a quality auditor for Nemak. His hometown is Edmonton, Kentucky.
