Chamber members filled the Eva Hawes Building at City Park on Thursday, August 28, for the monthly meeting, sponsored by Morgantown Bank and Trust and highlighted by a catered meal from Green River Catering.

Jason Jones the President of Morgantown Bank started the meeting talking about what is all around us these days and that is AI (Artificial Intelligence).  Jason stated that the power of AI is undeniable, and the future of AI is here and will be a big part of what we are doing on an ongoing basis from now on.  The ability to communicate with people as we know it is becoming a real fine skill and not being utilized or exercised by the youth.

Morgantown Bank utilizes AI every day.  It is used to detect fraud on debit cards, to detect anomalies in check writing, frequencies of transactions on accounts and in some instances for online requests and basic help options.  Morgantown Bank will not utilize AI when it comes to answering the phone because answering the phone is an important part of what they do on a daily basis.  They want you to be able to call in and know you are talking to a friend, a neighbor or just somebody that you can at least put a face to and feel comfortable.

The days when you didn’t have to worry about giving your information out over the phone are over.  There are so many scams and frauds out there now that all you have to do is answer your phone and say “Hello” and some scammer could turn that around to be able to steal money from you.  So, if you are asked several security questions over the phone when calling the bank, please be patient with the person on the other end because these security measures are there to help you so that you don’t fall victim to a scam or fraud.  Always remember that Morgantown Bank will never ask you for your password.  If you ever feel like something is wrong, then hang up and you dial the bank yourself so that you know you are talking to Morgantown Bank and not somebody in some other country.  Local law enforcement, as good as they are, cannot do anything to help you if you fall prey to a scam so please be very careful and make sure that you have good contact with your elderly family members so that they do not fall for any of the scams that are out there.
