The Metcalfe County fiscal court held a special-called meeting on Tuesday, August 19th, with the following in attendance: Judge/Executive Larry Wilson, County Treasurer/Fiscal Court Clerk Page Edwards, County Attorney Sharon Howard, Magistrates Ronnie Miller, Daniel Bragg, Harvey Hawkins, and Kevin Crain.
Also attending were Road Supervisor, Chris Compton, and Herald-New reporter, PJ Martin.
The short agenda was adopted after a motion by Magistrates, and immediately after, Judge Wilson asked for a motion to enter into closed session per KRS 61.810 (1)(b) for property acquisition and/or sale. The motion was made by magistrates Bragg and Miller.
During the closed session, several individuals entered the fiscal court room, and after approximately 45 minutes, the doors were opened.
The motion to return to open session was made by magistrates Bragg and Hawkins.
Moving quickly, as if rushed for time, Judge Wilson continued, “We have a motion by Ronnie Miller to allow me to sign a letter of intent and a second by Daniel Bragg, any discussion?… Motion carried. “And for those of you coming back into the room, we’ll be signing a letter of intent. We have a company that is interested in possibly purchasing the nursing home. The Letter of Intent is not a legally binding it’s just starting the process that they will look, start looking at the nursing home.”
No discussion, no questions, and no information was given before moving to the next item on the agenda.
Judge Wilson opened the discussion of the purchase of the new ambulance. The invoice in the meeting packets lists a 2025 Medic 116 Ambulance with a Chevrolet Chassis for $184,000, along with the necessary graphics for $6,900. The total cost incurred by Metcalfe County is $190,900.
Judge Wilson explained, “I was informed the other day, the new ambulance, which we get every five years, is ready to be picked up. And picking it up, we’d have to have a check. That check is $190,900.”
The ambulance funds are currently tied up in CDs that become available in September. In the meantime, it was suggested that the funds be transferred from the road fund to pay for the ambulance. Once the ambulance fund CDs are available in September, the money will then be transferred to the road fund to replace the funds used.
The motion was made by Magistrate Bragg, “To transfer $190,000 from the road fund to the ambulance fund. And in September, when the ambulance fund CD comes due. We take the money back out there.”
The motion was seconded by Magistrate Miller, and no discussion or objection, and the motion passed.
The motion was made by magistrates Hawkins and Miller to adjourn. Immediately following the adjournment, the announcement was made to begin the board meeting for the nursing home.
