On August 9, NOAA Weather Alert Radios were offered to all Butler County residents for free.  The NOAA Weather Alert Radios were given out as an initiative aimed at keeping everyone safe and informed during severe weather that may impact on our area.  The Butler County Fiscal Court partnered with Butler County Emergency Management and all Butler County Emergency Services to bring these to the community.  Between 8am to 6pm the radios were available to be picked up Morgantown 1st District Fire Department, 2nd District Fire Department/Fire Station Rd, Rochester 3rd District, 4th District/Brownsville Rd, and 5th District/Caneyville Rd.

Charlie Tomes, EMA Director, stated that they were given 5,300 weather alert radios and around 2000 were handed out that day.  You had to show proof that you were a Butler County Resident to receive a free radio.  After the ones were handed out at the fire stations, they were also taken to each of the schools and to some of the elderly who could not leave their homes in Butler County.  There are still plenty left and are being handed out.  If you did not pick up one for yourself or know of someone who can’t pick one up, you can come to the Judge Executives office at the courthouse and pick one up.  Be sure to bring proof of residency for yourself and who you are picking up for.  You can also call the Judges office at 270-526-3433 for more information.  They will continue to hand these out until they are gone.  Come get one so that you can make sure to stay alert of any upcoming weather.
