Construction is still underway for a bypass in Horse Cave that will connect US-31W across from Tri-County Auto and Oil’s fueling location over to KY-218 near Friendship Baptist Church.

According to Chris Jessie, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 4 Coordinator, the project is approximately 70% complete.

“Nearly all earth work is complete,” Jessie said. “Embankment work continues on the north side of KY 218 across from the bypass (on the interstate end).”

Jessie state that the project has progressed as expected with no significant issues or changes to plans. As of April 30, asphalt base was laid on the 31W side up to the bridge, and crews were laying base on the end from the bridge to 218.

“Major pieces of the puzzle still to be completed are pouring of the bridge deck, striping, and sign installation, along with earth work at the 218,” Jessie said. “It is probably worth noting, because I have been asked locally on several occasions, there are no signals being installed with the project based on initial traffic volume forecasts.”

The originally announced completion date is holding as specified in the contract for June 30 this year.
