Members of Metcalfe County High School’s Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) brought home several awards from the State Championship held in Lexington on April 23.
MCHS had two state champions: Sho Jeffers in Tech Bowl and Cara Bishop in Digital Music Composition.
Logan Gaskins and Landon Heckel represented Metcalfe County as STLP State Engineers.
Other MCHS students participating in various competitions included Chloe Huff, Austin Bowman, Teresa Clifton, Mason Jessee, Aidan Mahaney, Tanner Harper, and Destiney Jessie. “I am so very proud of each and every student that represented Metcalfe County High School and the effort that they put forth to prepare for the state championship,” said club sponsor Justin Smith. “Our students not only proved to themselves but to everyone else that no matter the technological task presented, they are prepared for it.”
MCHS Principal Joseph Eaton said, “Our students were successful because of the time and dedication they have demonstrated in their field of study and to the STLP Club at MCHS. I am beyond proud of their accomplishments and look forward to continued success with the STLP program. The life skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills that Mr. Smith and STLP foster are great for our students and prepare them for life after high school. Keep Hustling, Hornets!”
KDE’s Office of Education Technology runs STLP and uses project-based learning, technology utilization, and digital content creation to empower student achievement.
The State Championship features more than 500 schools from 107 school districts, with students competing in more than 20 live challenges in areas such as coding, robotics, and cinemania.
