Fiscal Court Proclaims April as Child Abuse Awareness Month

March 24, 2025, the Edmonson County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting. All Magistrates were present except for James Vincent.

The Fiscal Court acknowledged April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month with a proclamation. Judge Exec. Lindsey signed the proclamation on March 25, 2025, but read the proclamation in open Fiscal Court before the signing.

The road report was given by Joel Montgomery. Montgomery said everything is ready for blacktop season.  The Mack truck will need repairs in the amount of $5,000. This will include a new computer and wire harness.  Judge Lindsey said the county can claim repairs through FEMA and they are preparing the list. Lindsey also said there is a large log jam below the bridge on Oak Hill Road that will need to be cleaned up, to keep the water flowing.

Emergency Management Director Terry Massey gave the EM report. 17 calls and 8 have been field fires. The state restrictions are in place; 6:00 am- 6:00 pm you can burn but must be 150 feet outside woodland and someone must be present. 6:00 pm-6:00 am you can burn. Massey encourages everyone to use common sense when burning and not burn during high winds or leave things unattended.

The Sheriff’s report was given by Sheriff James Vincent. Vincent said they have made several arrests, and the new K-9 should be out in 3 weeks.

Jailer report was given by Jailer Todd Vincent. Vincent stated there are currently 19 inmates but by the evening it will be down to 16. 2 inmates who have been incarcerated for almost 4 years will be moved to the State side.

Parks and Rec. report was given by Director Cody Stewart. Stewart said they are getting things ready for baseball/softball. Opening day for the season is April 21   the annual Jamboree will be held April 26. The Easter Egg hunt will be on April 19 at 11:00 am.

In Committee reports Edmonson County Tourism Director Vanessa Ulm stated she was working on the trail town grant.  Cave Country Trails is working on a John Muir Trail connection research grant. They will probably have public comment meetings, and she will keep everyone up to date on this. John Muir is best known for helping establish the Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada Club but in 1867 Muir began his “Thousand Mile Walk to the Gulf” from Kentucky to Florida. Ulm also stated some of the funding for Mammoth Cave has been reinstated, which should help with tourism in the area.

In new business Fiscal Court acknowledged the House of Representatives Citation of Celebration. The citation recognized Edmonson County’s Bicentennial.

The Fiscal Court also acknowledged the Edmonson County Tourism Fiscal Year 2026 Budget.

The Fiscal Court approved Resolution EC25-10, Contract for Electrical Inspection Services.  This resolution covers adding S and H Inspection to help with the growth in the county as a second inspection provider. The cost of the inspections are covered by individuals and not the Fiscal Court.

In updates all Magistrates except for Anthony Hennion will be attending the KMCA Conference starting March 26. Magistrate TJ Massey will be interviewing Jonathon Shell during the conference.

The next Fiscal Court meeting will be on April 14, 2025, at 4:00 pm.
