The Little Muddy Rural Development Center held its Annual First Responders Appreciation Dinner on February 17th at the Little Muddy Community Rural Development Club. The event welcomed all of Butler County’s first responders, including EMS, fire, police, deputies, rescue squad members, and emergency management personnel.
At the start of the evening, more than 50 first responders were in attendance, with more arriving as the night went on. After working long hours in the cold, rain, and snow, this gathering provided a well-deserved opportunity to warm up, enjoy a hot meal, and reconnect with friends and colleagues.

For years, the members of Little Muddy Rural Development have organized this event as a way to show their gratitude. Some years see large turnouts, while others are quieter due to the demands of emergency work—but regardless of attendance, the dedication to honoring first responders remains unwavering. Volunteers who prepare the meal see it not as a burden but as a small token of appreciation, ensuring that every responder gets at least one hot meal amid Kentucky’s harsh winter weather.
Giles Taylor of the Morgantown Police Department expressed his gratitude, saying, “We greatly appreciate the Little Muddy Rural Development Community for all that they do for emergency services, even more so in these times of trial.”
This tradition is a testament to the strong bond between the community and those who serve and protect it—proof that even small gestures of kindness can make a big impact.
