Edmonson Historical Society held their monthly meeting on Jan. 16, 2025, at the Edmonson County Public Library.
Alicia Edwards, the Director of Edmonson County Public Library spoke about all the things the library has to offer. Alicia grandmother Judy Renfro was the “book mobile lady” for several years. Alicia explained that over the years the library had evolved in order to meet the community’s needs. ECPL has many different resources to offer everyone. Besides the regular books to be checked out the library will work to find you a book either by borrowing from another library or purchasing it. They also have technological resources that are available. Besides free Wi-Fi and computers there are fax services, printing services and DVD movies available.
GED testing is offered. You can also get help with CDL, Drivers License and ACT prep manuals. They try to partner with other groups, clubs and agencies to be inclusive of everyone. They provide free notary services. They visit the local nursing home and hold various clubs.
The library is at the beginning of a remodel and is looking at new ways to utilize what is already there and to incorporate new things for the community.

The main area of interest to the Historical Society is the genealogy section in the library. The library has a large section of books about Kentucky and two file cabinets filled with microfilm that holds previous issues of local newspapers and lots of records and information. The staff at the library would love to help you research your family history. Alicia told about a couple who travelled from Australia to search for her birth mother who was from Edmonson KY.
After the presentation Historical Society President Greg Hudson, reminded everyone that the 200th birthday celebration will be on Jan 18 at the Edmonson County Courthouse. He is working towards a Homecoming event in May and Old Timers Day in September.
The next meeting will be Feb.20 at the Edmonson County Public Library at 6:00pm.
