Larry “Coach” Cushenberry
CAVE CITY – Larry “Coach” Cushenberry, age 81, departed this life with his family at his side on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow. He was born on December 7, 1943, in Jefferson County, Kentucky to the late John and Anna Graham Cushenberry. He was married to his loving wife, Nancy Lee Cushenberry, until they were parted by her passing on July 20, 2011.
A dedicated educator, Larry spent 27 years making a difference in the lives of his students. His career also included coaching at Caverna High School and Park City Junior High, where he inspired and guided young athletes to reach their full potential. Following retirement from teaching, Larry worked as a bus driver for 15 for Barren County school, continuing to have a positive impact on young people. Larry spent many summers working as a Ranger at Mammoth Cave National Park. In addition, he owned and operated Ridgetop Pay Lake, further establishing himself as a valued member of the community.
Larry was a member of the Highland United Methodist Church, where he found solace and fellowship. His love for life was evident not only in his professional endeavors but also through the hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sports fan. He loved mowing grass, eating sweets and often found pleasure in taking a good nap—simple joys that enriched his daily life.
He leaves to honor his memory— his daughters, Kim Johnson (Jeff) of Owensboro and Laura Harper (Chris) of Cave City; granddaughter, Mackenzie Wilson (Steven) of Elkton; great-grandchildren, Zachariah, Zoey, and Zariah Wilson; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Schultz (Wayne). Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a special son, Greg Phillips.
