Cookies with the Commander
The Grinch with Gunner and Zander Havens
Story and Pictures by Beverly Bonilla
The Granville Allen VFW Post #5837 held their Cookies with the Commander on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The event was held at the Butler Co Extension office instead of at the VFW Post due to needing extra parking this year.
Several hundred adults and children came out to enjoy the day. When entering the building, the children were given a sheet of paper with a scavenger hunt on it. There were 18 different pictures that the children had to find throughout the building. The children were able to have a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch was also there to visit with everyone. Then each child was able to come in and pick out one toy, a coat and hat if needed along with gloves and shoes. There was also a table that had an assortment of different items that they were allowed to choose from as well. After that was finished then you could enjoy a hot cup of cocoa and decorate Christmas cookies. Tables were also set up with many different crafts for the kids to sit and enjoy. Before leaving, scavenger hunters were told to hand in their papers, and when doing so, they received another gift.
A vibrant display of toys, ready for children to pick out their perfect gift, alongside warm essentials like coats, hats, and gloves.
This year the VFW Post partnered with Delta Faucet to make the day a success. A huge thank you to all of those to helped with the gifts, games and volunteered their time. Seeing all the huge smiles on all the faces made the day a huge success.
