Dec 14 2024 Edmonson County High School held their Grand Opening and dedication of the Lannie Deweese Vocational Center. Kevin Alexander recognize Cynthia Whittinghill who found the grant at first and brought it to his attention.  Callie Bellies and Lannie Deweese worked to get the grant wrote and Rep. Michael Meredith really pushed to get ECHS the money. In the first round Edmonson missed it by just a fraction. The money was then extended. In the second round Rep. Michael Meredith did a slight of hand to get the money pushed through.  Edmonson County was then awarded $10 million dollars.

Ground breaking took place in August of 2023. Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman was on hand for the ceremony and several students got to join in the historic event. In just a little over a year the project was completed which will give Edmonson County students a head start in the jobs industry straight out of high school.

Along with a new area for welding and a mock medical wing there are some surprises such as computers for students who want to go in that direction and auto mechanics.  One area houses 3-D printers and a robot for those wishing to take full advantage of what today’s work industries demand.

This is a great addition to Edmonson County. We have great students with a hard work ethic and now they will have the advantage of starting a life-long career straight out of high school.
