As a child waking up on Christmas morning and seeing gifts under the tree was so exciting! Unfortunately, not every child gets to experience that excitement on Christmas morning.
For many years Grace Union Missionary Baptist Church has been holding fundraisers the proceeds of which go toward the “Needy Children Program.” This wonderful program was created to help some of the families who struggle to purchase Christmas items for their children. The money is raised in Metcalfe County and stays in Metcalfe County so kids can have gifts under their trees.
Some of the fundraisers held this year were a Pankake Breakfast in the spring and a Cookout/Gospel Singing in the fall. A few other fundraisers were held along with many generous donations. This year the Needy Children Program was able to shop for fifty-one children. That is an increase of sixteen children from last year.
The church family would like to thank everyone who donated or helped in any way this year to make this the most successful year the program has ever had! Grace Union Missionary Baptist Church would also like to thank the Family Resource Center with Metcalfe County Schools for getting the list of kids prepared so they could shop for them and hopefully put a smile on those children’s faces come Christmas morning.

This year’s program was so successful that it took two vehicles to haul the gifts. Pictured are David Smith and Patty Bunch. Photo | Robin Baker
