Helen Esther Shipman
GLASGOW – Helen Esther Shipman, 76, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Marcel and Pauline Esther Painter Miller.
She was in the women’s army corps from 1966 to 1969, rising to the rank of Specialist 4th Class. She attended Basic WAC training at Fort McClellan, AL, Advanced training (Medical Corpsman) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and was stationed for the remainder of her service at Presidio of San Francisco, CA. Her awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Cold War Medal. Her memberships include Life Member DAV Auxiliary, Life Member Moph Auxiliary, and Life Member American Legion. She had a BA degree in Theoretical Mathematics from Chaminade College of Hawaii.
She is survived by her husband, Walter R. Shipman. They were married on August 16, 1968. Two sons, Timothy Shipman and Michael Shipman; three grandchildren, Michael Shipman Jr., Alisha Shipman, and Jesse Shipman.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, November 29, 2024, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after 1:00 pm Friday until time for services.
