Metcalfe County, KY – October 2024: Barn Lot Theater, a cornerstone of cultural enrichment in Metcalfe County, is proud to join thousands of arts organizations and communities across the nation in celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM) throughout October. This month-long celebration highlights the civic importance of the arts and the tireless efforts of artists, creative workers, historians, teachers, and cultural groups in making the arts and humanities an integral part of every community.
Kentuckians for the Arts (KFTA), the state’s leading nonprofit arts advocacy organization, has curated an extensive calendar featuring over 400 arts events throughout Kentucky this October. This comprehensive list of events, accessible at kyforthearts.org, ensures that every county, including Metcalfe, is well-represented in this cultural celebration.
In Metcalfe County, the arts scene is vibrant and deeply rooted in local history. The county is famously known for being the birthplace of renowned performing groups like The Kentucky Headhunters and Blackstone Cherry. Additionally, almost a century ago, it was home to Rollin Sullivan, a key figure in the Kentucky Ramblers and later known for his role in Lonzo and Oscar.
Barn Lot Theater offers a variety of opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the arts. The theater’s productions are well-known for promoting tourism and cultural appreciation. Further contributing to the county’s artistic landscape are the Harold Chambers Theater Troupe, which fosters local talent, and the Metcalfe County Schools’ 21st Century Drama Program, dedicated to nurturing the artistic growth of young students. The Showstoppers Dance program and the MCHS Dance Team also provide exceptional dance education and performances, enriching the community’s cultural fabric.
Earlier this month, in a show of community solidarity, Mayor Doug Smith and Judge Executive Larry Wilson signed a proclamation recognizing October as National Arts and Humanities Month in Metcalfe County. Their commitment underscores the value of the arts in enhancing the quality of life and fostering community bonds.
“National Arts and Humanities Month is a time to reflect on the profound impact the arts have on our lives,” said Kyle Hadley, Executive Director of Barn Lot Theater. “We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the creativity and diversity that the arts bring to Metcalfe County.”
Barn Lot Theater encourages everyone to participate in the diverse array of events and activities planned for this month, making it the perfect opportunity to support and appreciate the vital role of the arts in our community.
