This was the second year for an evening event to honor Barren County First Responders. Every first responder was invited to attend for a dinner and music under the stars on the downtown Glasgow square.
This past Saturday, September 7th, the north side of the square was closed for traffic and several tables and a dance floor was set up. Dinner was brought in by Local Roots and the music performed by the No Deposit Band.
Barren County Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said she was very pleased with all those who made it possible. “The event would not be possible without the support of the Barren County Fiscal Court and the Glasgow City Government and our sponsors Scotty’s Paving, Pro Crete, Larry Glass Construction, Payne Trucking, Newberry Broadcasting lnc., Bluegrass Associates, and Lyons Company.”
It was indeed an amazing evening with perfect weather, good food and music just right for the occasion.
All first responders in Barren County were invited to attend for free, and it was so nice to see them socialize and introduce their wives and partners with those in attendance.
In the crowd was a wide range of supporters ranging from retired Police Chief and Mayor Daryl Pickett and his wife Connie to a new City Council member hopeful Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Phillip Gearlds and wife Pam. Both gentleman and their families have sacrificed in much the same manner as those being honored this very evening and they wanted to show their appreciation.
In our business here at the newspaper we see first hand these true professionals in action and are proud to do our part in honoring them, those who came out and the businesses who made it possible.
The beautiful atmosphere at this dinner ended a perfect day that started in Cave City attending the very popular Cars and Coffee, and a nice late morning walk around the Glasgow square to shop at the Bounty of the Barrens Farmers Market.
