The Hart County Varsity Cheerleaders have stayed busy cheering on the 11-0 Raider football team this season, but they’ve also been hard at work learning and perfecting their competition routine. Their hard work came to fruition this past Saturday, November 4.
When the cheerleaders stepped on the competition mat at Valley High School in Louisville, they were the two-time defending Region 3 Champions. By the end of the afternoon, they’d advanced to the three-time defending Champions, leaving the mat with a score of 95.5 – the highest in school history.
Cheerleading regions are combined with two basketball regions. To create Region 3 in cheerleading, KHSAA combined basketball regions 5 and 6.
The cheerleaders and their coach later discovered that not only did they win their region by ten points, but they also received the highest score in the state in their division.
“This is by far the best Hart County Cheer has looked since I can remember,” said Coach Kim Minor. “We couldn’t be where we are right now without the amazing support from our parents and community.”
This is the first coed cheer team for Hart County in 25 years. The team consists of 4 seniors, 14 juniors, 2 sophomores, 5 freshmen, and 2 eighth graders. Three of the cheerleaders are also on the football team.
The cheerleaders will continue their quest for victory at their UCA cheer competition on Saturday, November 18, and they will compete at State on Saturday, December 8.
