Judy Carol Polson

KNOB LICK – Judy Carol Polson, aged 80, passed away on September 28, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 9, 1945, in Little Barren, Kentucky, to her beloved parents, Frank and Margie South Jones. As an educator for nearly three decades in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, she taught thousands of students, providing not only knowledge but a caring and empathetic place to which they could turn. One of her proudest moments was being honored by former students as a Metcalfe County Educator Idol in 2021. Judy was a longtime member, choir leader, and Sunday school teacher at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Knob Lick, Kentucky. Both a talented pianist and vocalist, she felt great joy when expressing her Christian faith through music. Judy enjoyed sewing and crafting, watching westerns, and sitting at her kitchen window watching her “pet” squirrels scamper in the backyard. She loved Estée Lauder “Youth Dew” perfume, statement earrings, and turquoise jewelry.

In her youth, she was an exceptional softball player, and it was on the playing field where she met her husband, Freddie Polson, who survives. Married on July 1, 1966, they were together, side by side, for 60 years. She was a wonderful and loving mother to sons, Shane (Dana) Polson and Casey Polson, and daughter, Summer Polson. She is survived by sister, O-Jean Atwell; her brother, Freddie Jones; brother-in-law, Jerry Polson; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robbie Jones.

In the last year of her life, she was assisted by caregiver Neysa Howard.

When teaching, Judy ended each week by reminding students of her motto for living. As you think of her, remember her advice to keep it “Safe, Sober, and Moral”.

Funeral Services for Judy will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home, with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin Friday at 8:30 AM until time for the service at the funeral home.
