Joyce Capps

GLASGOW – Joyce Capps, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at NHC Healthcare, Glasgow. She was born on June 30, 1938, in Cumberland County, KY, to the late Paul and Rosie Garrett Claywell. She retired from SKF Industries after 30 years of service. Before her health prevented her from attending, she was a faithful member of Glasgow Wesleyan Church. She and her husband loved working in their vegetable garden and spent hours tending, picking, canning, cooking, and sharing their harvest. She was a wonderful cook, baking German Chocolate cakes, jam cakes that she would mail to her brothers at Christmas, chicken and dumplings that she took to many church potlucks, cherry cream cheese pies that found their way to many shut-ins, and usually something from her garden that she had canned or frozen. Her great-granddaughters have continued that tradition by growing and preserving their own garden. Granny would be proud. Her faith and her church were very important to her, as was her family.

Joyce is survived by two daughters, Sheila Capps of Glasgow and Beverly Marable (Gary) of Glasgow; two granddaughters, Erin Lowe (Brent) of Glasgow and Stacie Albe (Geoff) of Vero Beach, Florida.; one grandson, Brad Marable of Glasgow; three great-granddaughters, Matilda, Lucy, and June Albe of Vero Beach, Florida; one sister-in-law, Frances Key of Glasgow; and one brother-in-law, Malcolm Capps of Glasgow.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Vernon Capps; four sisters, Grace Turner, Univay Scott, Robbie Curtis, and Donnie Winchester; six brothers, Delmer Claywell, Russell Claywell, Roy Claywell, Doug Claywell, David Claywell, and Clifton Claywell.

Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 11, from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the wonderful staff at NHC who showed her love and care for nearly two years.
