The Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce hosted the fourth ribbon-cutting of the year for BRASS Inc.
The Barren River Area Safe Space Mobile Advocacy Response Unit rolled into Edmonton early Tuesday morning for the ribbon cutting and to attend the Chamber breakfast at the Old School Gym. Aleasha Martin, Director of Community Operations, was the guest speaker for BRASS at breakfast and for the ribbon-cutting. In addition to Aleasha, the BRASS representatives in attendance for the morning were Jenni Leeds, Director of Development; Robert Chinn, Administration Coordinator; and Emily Lancaster, DV Advocate, Community Operations.
Gina Gibson, Chamber President, welcomed all those in attendance and shared her support and that of the Chamber of Commerce for this much needed service. “It was a privilege to welcome the mobile unit to Metcalfe County.”
The unit is designed to close that gap and meet survivors where they are. The unit was made possible through a $68,000 Growth Grant from the Women’s Fund of South Central Kentucky, a significant vehicle discount from Camping World, and free vehicle branding provided by Signature Signs and Ad Specialties.
Aleasha Martin, on behalf of BRASS, expressed their appreciation to those who came out to support them and provided details about the services to those in attendance. The mobile unit was open for a tour, and the BRASS Representatives were eager to answer questions about the services offered.
This was a big day for Metcalfe County and the surrounding counties that will benefit from the Mobile Advocacy Response Unit. Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. is a non-profit that provides emergency and support services to those affected by domestic violence.
The BRASS, Inc. Mobile Advocacy Response Unit will bring confidential advocacy, safety planning, legal advocacy, and survivor resources directly into the following ten counties: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren.
BRASS, Inc. was founded in 1980 and serves survivors of domestic violence across all ten counties. The organization operates a 30-bed emergency shelter, satellite offices in three counties, an Economic Justice Institute, and a 24-hour crisis line.
BRASS Inc. serves nearly 3,000 survivors each year.
