Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College recently celebrated a record number of high school students earning college degrees through the school’s dual credit program, including two graduates from Edmonson County High School.
Brayden Johnson and Ella Madison were among 13 students across southcentral Kentucky who completed at least 60 college credit hours while still enrolled in high school, earning associate degrees through SKYCTC.
The accomplishment allowed students to earn college credentials debt-free while balancing high school coursework, extracurricular activities and other responsibilities.
Johnson said the program helped prepare him for his future career goals.
“Completing my Associate in Science Degree through SKYCTC while in high school has been an incredible opportunity that pushed me to take initiative and prepared me for the rigor of college,” Johnson said. “It’s given me a strong foundation as I pursue a career in medicine and work toward becoming a physician.”
Madison said the experience strengthened her confidence and future plans.
“I am grateful for the opportunity given to me and that I completed my associate degree while also attending high school full time,” Madison said. “This accomplishment helped me realize that I can do hard things, and I feel more prepared for Western Kentucky University.”
Most SKYCTC dual credit students graduate with an average of approximately six college credit hours completed, making this year’s achievement especially notable.
SKYCTC officials said the dual credit program helps students gain valuable experience with college-level coursework while preparing for future academic and career success.
