Lily Ann Glass, daughter of Melissa and Jonathon Glass, was chosen to represent the Butler County High School Class of 2026 as the DAR Good Citizen. In addition to representing the local Chapter she recently represented the 2nd District at the Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference; the 2nd District includes 10 DAR chapters in the surrounding area.

Lily’s high school career has included participation in several groups and activities: 4-H club vice president, 2025 4H State Demonstration Competition 1st place, senior division, FCCLA chapter officer, 3 time FCCLA parliamentary procedure state champion, 2025 KHSAA Girls Tennis Super Prep award, 1st Seed Girls Tennis Player, Varsity Volleyball co-captain, 4 year Beta Club member, Educators Rising Club member, 2025 Miss Southcentral Kentucky’s Teen through Miss Kentucky Organization. She also helped to organize and participate in her community service initiative “Books and Braids” where she met with elementary school girls one morning a week to read and foster childhood literacy skills, hopefully helping young girls have a space in their community where they can feel empowered and loved as they improve their reading and communication skills. In addition to her time participating in school sports and clubs, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, pageants, reading, crafting and thrifting.

From Lily’s essay, Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility to Preserve It, she said, “The characteristics of good citizens within the United States can help renew and strengthen the characteristics of democracy that the Patriots of the American Revolution once fought for. As modern-day citizens we should always carry ourselves with a sense of dignity, pride, and desire for participation. If everybody were to embody these three characteristics, our country would surely make a turn for the better…. Democracy, at its most fundamental level, is dependent upon participation from the people. …This is in my opinion the most beautiful thing about it. Some people are quick to complain about government issues but take absolutely no action to change their circumstances. However, a democracy gives us as citizens every opportunity to make a change. Always exercise your right to vote, your right to speak freely, and your right to think for yourself…. The dream of the Patriots of the American Revolution was not a dream for weak people, but for a united people who are not afraid to stand up.”

In this America 250 Year it is interesting to note that Lily Ann Glass has a rich heritage in our American history. She is a direct descendant of American Revolutionary Patriot, Peyton Brown. He was born in 1764 in Virginia where he served for the cause of Freedom then later moved to Kentucky where he died in 1833 in Butler County. This is only one of the family lines where she has descended from American Patriots.

Lily was selected by the faculty at Butler County High for the qualities of Dependability (truthfulness, honesty, punctuality); Service (cooperation, helpfulness, responsibility); Leadership (personality, self-control, initiative) and Patriotism (unselfish loyalty to American ideals). Lily Glass will be recognized at the Butler County NSDAR Chapter’s Silver Awards Ceremony. The event will be held on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 PM in the Butler County High School Auditorium. Several other Butler County students will also be recognized for their achievements at this time.
