Blue Holler Cafe had their opening day for the 2026 season on April 1, 2026.
The little restaurant was full and the cooks and waitresses were working at full speed. Burgers, fried fish and the ever popular schnitzel seemed to be the favorites.
If you have never tried Blue Holler Cafe it is an authentic German-American eatery. People travel from all over the state to get a bite, and its right here in our backyard. You won’t find pre-made items on the menu. Claudia Ramthun tenderizes the pork for the schnitzel herself and the German potato salad is not the southern mustard style but filled with a generous amount of bacon. The cafe has outdoor deck seating with one of the most breathtaking views of Blu Holler you could ever wish to see.

The cafe started in 2014 and quickly grew to popularity, due to the home cooking and owners Harry and Claudia’s friendly personalities. Sadly Harry passed away in 2023, but Claudia has keep his spirit with a small memorial on the wall and by keeping the business going.
Claudia said last year was a slow season due to the Nolin State Park Campgrounds being destroyed in the floods. She hopes this year will be better, but the State Park Campgrounds have not yet been rebuilt, although some privately owned ones have.
One last thing before you leave is a must have German made pretzel. A small one is about the size of two hands, and don’t forget the mustard sauce to dip it in.
