November 1, 2025. Kyrock Elementary held its official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Kyrock school. Edmonson County School Superintendent Brian Alexander welcomed everyone to the groundbreaking. He thanked past superintendents and Board members for being good stewards of the school system’s money over the years. This allowed the dream of a new Kyrock Elementary School to become a reality.

Board Chairman Alex Ulm was excited to announce that, along with the county’s bicentennial, a new chapter has started for Kyrock. For the last 10 years, the new Kyrock school has been the main focus for the school district. Ulm thanked the family of Don Patton for the generosity of the sale of a large lot at a generous price to build the new school on.  The parent pick up line road coming into the school will be called Blackhawk way and will be almost a full mile in length. In honor of Patton, the other access road for the buses will be named after Don Patton. The gymnasium will be a self-contained tornado shelter that can sustain an F-5 tornado for two hours.

Becky Goad talked about the library ladies, who helped to guide her to preserve the history of Kyrock by writing books about Kyrock. This money was then used to pay for the marker at the current Kyrock school.  Kyrock is one of the ten continuously operating schools in the state, beginning in 1919. Kyrock school has evolved and moved several times over the years but has always remained Kyrock.

Tommy Gumm, co-owner of Alliance Corporation, attended the event. Alliance has done several projects in the county, including the Kyrock expansion, the library, and the high school.
