Busy Agenda for Fiscal Court

Butler County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting on August 11. All magistrates were in attendance.

In the old business, the Fiscal Court approved accepting the bid from Williams Flooring in the amount of $1,324.79 to install flooring in the ferry houses.

After a closed session, the Fiscal Court approved to conduct interviews for road department positions and to allow the Judge Exec. Tim Flener to do an emergency hire for the Butler County Ferry’s. The Court also agreed to increase starting pay by $0.50 per hour.

Next, the Fiscal Court discussed the Bridge Applications for the 25/26 year. The Court finally agreed to pick the bridge with the most traffic, most costly, and greatest need, being the Flint Springs Bridge. Bryant Bridge and Rochester/Green River have been approved already.

The Brooklyn Grancer Road bids were opened and awarded the contract to Lawrence Concrete for $38,000.

The Butler County Arts Guild asked the Fiscal Court to approve the grant money for the 24/25 year in the amount of $2,000. The Fiscal Court approved.

The Fiscal Court approved the Ambulance line of credit at Morgantown Bank and Trust and also approved to apply for the Litter Abatement grant and the Open Dump Grant.

Previously, Judge Flener had asked for all Fire Departments and Rescue Squad to turn in a breakdown list of equipment hours used during the May 2024 tornado cleanups, totaling $8,819. This was based on FEMA reports, and the court approved the payments.

The Lock 5 Road issue was tabled until the Judge Exec. could see the survey on the property. The Army Corp. of Engineers would like to turn the property over to the Fiscal Court for the County. The Fiscal Court also tabled the decision to pay the City of Rochester’s bills until it could be clarified what bills were being asked to pay, as per a previous agreement between the Court and Rochester.

The Fiscal Court approved the purchase of a Ford F550 from the state surplus.

There were over 1700 weather radios handed out to residents to date, Judge Flener thanked everyone who helped with the event.

The Fiscal Court approved the following: to pay Tourism Commission $2,043.92, pay Form 720 Health Insurance Payment Excise Tax $167.44, Treasurer’s Monthly report, Litter Abatement, transfer $10,000 from the General Fund to E-911, transfer $35,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund, and all other bills and transfers.

The next Fiscal Court will be on August 25, 2025 at 5:00pm in the courthouse.
