June 28, 2025, The National Wild Turkey Federation, Mammoth Cave Chapter, held Jake’s Day for the kids. Held at Mammoth Cave Cabin Rentals, kids got to have a hands-on experience. KY Fish and Wildlife brought fishing poles and showed the kids tips and tricks to catch a big one.

NWTF held classes in BB gun shooting and safety, along with archery. The events were rounded out with hayrides and food. BJ Honeycutt is on the State Board of Directors for the National Wild Turkey Federation and always enjoys hosting the event.  Honeycutt wanted to extend thanks to Edmonson County Tourism, Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln Volunteer Fire Dept., KY Fish and Wildlife, and Mammoth Cave Cabin Rentals.

NWTF promotes and funds research and conservation efforts about wild turkeys. Its works have helped to restore the wild turkey population in Kentucky. They promote habitat diversity and restore woodlands and prairies.

Honeycutt explained that it teaches kids safety and an interest in hunting and fishing at a young age. It’s a good family fun event. Visitors staying at the Mammoth Cave Cabins from Florida and West Virginia were invited to attend and take part in the activities. They said they couldn’t wait to get back home and tell everyone how great a place it was and how much they learned. They also will recommend to friends and family to visit Edmonson County, and that is a great compliment for the NWTF and Edmonson County.
