Virginia McCandless Keen

LOUISVILLE – Virginia McCandless Keen 73, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at her residence. Virginia was born June 16, 1951, to the late Brown and Virginia Boston McCandless. She was also preceded in death by her son, JB Keen.

Virginia was known best for her title as “Granny”. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, extending her love even beyond her own family. She was at every ball game, birthday party, and school event for her kids and grandkids, and she was always the first one there. She was a dedicated Derby attendee, celebrating 54 consecutive Derby’s, each with a custom, extravagant hat. She was a proud resident of Old Louisville and a loyal UofL Cardinals fan. Ginny was an experienced (and lucky!) bingo player, spending many of her nights playing with family and old friends. She had an extensive collection of nutcrackers that occupied her entire home, as well as a large collection of solar dancers that she displayed on the dashboard of her minivan. She will forever be known for her one-of-a-kind personality, her free spirit, and her natural ability to connect with anyone.

She is survived by her three children, Andrew Keen (Ashley Pike), and Jon (Hannah) Keen both of Louisville, KY, and Autumn Keen (Noah Melgar) of FL.; two sisters, Linda Howard of Mobile, AL, and Becky McCandless of Louisville, KY; and seven grandchildren, Savannah, Lillian, Katelynn, Ava, Summer, Rylee, and Regan.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Boston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be to Boston Cemetery Fund. Checks can be mailed to Butler Funeral Home, PO Box 117, Edmonton, KY 42129.

Butler Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted to the care of Ms. Keen.
