Tornado hits Jonesville

An EF-1 tornado with wind speeds reaching 95 mph hit Jonesville last Thursday, approximately one mile south of the Hart County/LaRue County line along 31E.

In the early morning hours of February 6, severe weather moved across the Commonwealth, bringing with it tornado warnings for Hart County.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado that hit Jonesville touched down at 5:07 a.m. CST and lifted up at 5:10 a.m. The path length of the tornado was originally believed to have been half a mile, but is now believed to have been on the ground for approximately 2.7 miles. It is estimated that the tornado was 100 yards wide.

Multiple structures in the area sustained damage, with debris scattered in fields and along the highway and numerous trees down. No injuries were reported as of press time.
