Dec. 23, 2024, Brownsville City Council and the new Mayor were sworn in at the Edmonson County Courthouse. Many family and friends came out to celebrate the retirement of Mayor Jerry Meredith and to celebrate the new Mayor Ricky Simon and new Council members.
The new City Council will include one new member and two women. Councilman Anthony Duvall had been sworn in prior to the ceremony due to him not being able to attend. Brownsville’s new council will include Lloyd Blanton, Melinda VanMeter, Jill Vincent, Anthony Duvall, Justin Meredith and David Campbell.

City Clerk Lori Burnett was the official for the swearing in and provided cake and refreshments for the event. Lori said she had enjoyed working with Mayor Meredith and looked forward to working with Mayor Simon in the coming years.
Mayor Meredith has served since 2009. Meredith was presented with a plaque to show gratitude for his 16 years of service to Brownsville and its residents.
