Animal Tales: A Holiday Safari

The Green Winged Macaw also known as the green and red macaw is among the largest macaw species. Its large beak can be intimidating, but this macaw has a reputation as a gentle giant.

On Saturday, December 7th an Animal Tales: Holiday Safari came to the Metcalfe County Public Library with six surprise guest animals from around the world.

Those attending picked a present and that present had a clue about one of the surprise animals. Each animal was presented along with information about their country of origin, habitat, diet, and other notable traits. At the end of the presentations everyone got a turn to touch the red and white Tegu.

The African Pygmy Hedgehog or four-toed hedgehog is a species of hedgehog found throughout much of central and eastern Africa.

A Leopard Gecko is a ground-dwelling gecko native to the rocky dry grassland and desert regions of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, India, and Nepal.

European Legless Lizard or the European glass lizard, not a snake although it has no legs it is a species of large lizard found from Southern Europe to Central Asia.

The red and white Tegu is a lizard common to Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Each child (and adult) was able to touch the Tegu.
