Robert “Bobby” Taylor Groce

GLASGOW – Robert (Bobby) Taylor Groce, 89, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 6, 1934 in Glasgow, Ky to the late John Robert and Zelma Dearing Groce.

Bobby owned Groce Oil in Haywood, Ky for many years. He served his community as magistrate of Barren County for 17 years. Bobby was a lifelong farmer and member of Dover Baptist Church in Haywood, Ky. For many years, Bobby dedicated time to the Haywood Volunteer Fire Department. He was instrumental in the startup of the Little League Program at Austin Tracy. Bobby loved hunting, fishing, softball, and Barren County football; he missed only one game between 1973 to 1984. Bobby was also the founder of the Groce Oil Softball team in the 60’s, which won numerous tournaments in the area. However, Bobby’s greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Janet Wilkerson Groce of 61 years; his two sons, Brad (Beth) and Bruce (Bridget); four grandchildren, Cheyenne (Joe Taylor), Clay (Samantha), Taylor (Macy), and Connor (Kale); three great-grandchildren, Quaid and Cami Mercer, and Warner Groce; sister, Sue Yates; and sister-in-law, Betty Lou Groce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Faith Groce; brother, Kenneth Groce; and brother-in-law, John Yates.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday and after 9:00 am Wednesday until time for services at the funeral home.
