The Edmonton Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Lesley London as the recipient of the 23rd Annual Metcalfe County Educator of the Year Award. Lesley is a teacher for the Metcalfe County Middle School.
Lesley London graduated from Metcalfe County High School in 1992 and from Transylvania University in 1996 with a major in Business Administration. Thankfully, she found her way into the classroom where she has made a difference for so many students over the years.
Lesley’s special guests at the banquet were her husband, Johnny, children Tyler and Kassady, and mother, Carolyn Huffman.
This year marks the twenty-third year an Educator has been honored with this distinguished award. Lesley London was honored at the Senior Celebrity Banquet on April 17th and introduced by colleague, Kelly Crawhorn.
Mrs. London has had service-learning classes in the media center for several years where Kelly Crawhorn has witnessed her interaction with students. Lesley is phenomenal at helping students find projects that they are passionate about, which helps them to learn independently. She is able to inspire students of all abilities. Mrs. London has worked with advanced students to help them do service learning projects for years. Lesley and her students have helped many public and community agencies, including the Metcalfe County Animal Shelter, Metcalfe County Public Library, Metcalfe Healthcare Center, Edmonton-Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce, 4-H Extension Service, and the City of Edmonton to name a few.
Kelly Crawhorn shared many positive attributes about Mrs. London, stating she goes above and beyond to inspire all students and advocates for all of her coworkers. Lesley has mentored countless new teachers and has been in their corner, helped them, cried when they cried, and cheered when they succeeded.
Another characteristic of Mrs. London is her desire to further her own education, she is currently seeking her National Board Certification, the most respected professional certification available in education.
Lesley London has coached basketball for years, currently, she is an FCA character coach for the high school girls’ basketball team, a supporter of 4-H, helps with the Metcalfe County Fair, and is actively involved in her Church.
In closing Ms. Crawhorn stated, “I am proud to call Lesley London a coworker and a friend.”
Metcalfe County is fortunate to have a Lesley London in our school system!
